As part of the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that runs around the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. The southern entrance is within Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entrance, Nahal Ein Kerem, is about half a kilometer away from the Nahal Ein Kerem junction.

On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin and Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman, and a slew of cyclists attended a ceremony to inaugurate the tunnel's 2.1-kilometer-long length.

Jerusalem was once a tourist attraction due to its rich past. Elkin declared that, in the present aside from its historic treasures, it is also home to modern-day travelers. About NIS 25 million was invested in the project, budgeted by the Elkin's Ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry, the Jerusalem Municipality as well as the Gihon Corporation and the Jerusalem Purification and Sewerage Works, and the work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

The work currently in progress includes road construction, the installation of blowers as well as modern electrical and safety systems, to ensure the tunnel is safe for pedestrians to travel through at all times of the year.
