Neve ParitzkiIsrael's first cycling tunnel is inaugurated in Jerusalem

The Kerem Tunnel allows for a unique hiking and riding experience.
The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel was opened in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle path that runs around the capital city.

The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban and its northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem, about half a kilometer close to the Kerem junction.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was officially inaugurated by Jerusalem's Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin. The ceremony was also attended by Mayor Moshelion Avi Balehnikov Gihon Water Company chairman, as well as thousands of cyclists.

Elkin's Ministry and the Tourism Ministry budgeted the project.

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to transfer the main sewer line toward Sorek's purification plant.
